Whats up with me

Im currently learning the true meaning of giving everything for Christ. I want to compose a list of all the things I never would have been able to give up if not for the power of Christ in me…

Drugs, smoking, cursing(on going war, but im winning!), drinking, sex, the wrong freinds, love of money clothes and things, and so so so much more!

NEED” is a powerful word, a powerful but false word for the most part. Apart from God, what do we really need? Food? A home? Well thats all good stuff, but what does that lead too? Well what gets you all of these things… money. Money is the root of all evil, which is why we “NEED” it so much. What cant you do with out money these days? Now dont get me wrong, i am not saying its wrong to work for money so that you can have a house and food. Thats actually alright for most people because they wont over do it, but thats all you need. A house and food are the only things you NEED! do you NEED a tv? do you NEED a bed? do you NEED an X-Box 360 ir PS3?

Heres a thought. Depend on God… like you are supposd to do. Depend on him to meet your true NEEDS. Dont go out and buy all these things! Give that $2000 you saved up for a plasma screen to a homeless shelter. Send an awsome love offering to a missionary. Turn the root of all evil around and smack Satan in the face with it. And all that spare time you would WAIST with all of those THINGS, spend it witnessing or doing something USEFULL!

 Thats my conviction right now.

A Pick-Me-Up

I dont want to know what I’d be without forgiveness.

This is a faithful saying:

For if we died with Him,
We shall also live with Him.
       If we endure,
We shall also reign with Him.
      If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
      If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
      He cannot deny Himself.

                         2 Timothy 2:11-13

Who is a God like You,
      Pardoning iniquity
And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage?

He does not retain His anger forever,
      Because He delights in mercy.
                          Micah 7:18

What makes Christian music Christian.

i wrote this for the school news paper. So i just discided to put it up for the heck of it.

What Makes Music Christian?

By: Jon Dice

A huge debate has been going on and on about the truth behind Christian music. Pastors preach that we as Christians have stepped down to where the world once was and our music is proof of this. They say that alternative Christian rock music doesn’t fallow the basics of praise to God and use verses like Psalms 40:3 to support their opinion. Teens are lashing out because what they like is under attack and the majority of parents are taking the side of the church. While most teens ignore what others say, the other half becomes confused. They try changing their music and when they fail, they give up all together and just listen to anything and everything. So what is the truth behind all of this? Why do so many people tell us that there is something wrong with alternative Christian rock? And how do we know if they are right or wrong?

I have had a lot of time to think about this and have realized that the accusations used against alternative Christian rock are ether false or misused. When your pastor reads Psalms 40:3, he will most likely just read this much of the verse, “He put a new song in my mouth…” There are a few things that are already wrong with this, but first you should probably read the whole verse, “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.” This is the whole verse and now let’s look at what you have probably heard that is inaccurate.             The first thing most people do when trying to preach against alternative Christian music, is use the verse I just showed you; but they use a misinterpretation of the verse. If you listen to a Christian band, then their beliefs will be apparent through the lyrics, so this would be the perfect time to use the rest of the verse. If the band you use praises God at all in their lyrics, then you have just proved your point. That accusation is pretty easy to stand up to, and the great thing is that the rest are all easier.            The remaining accusations are basically all just misunderstandings. They all go against the music, but the music isn’t what touches the heart of God, it’s the words that you say. Don’t ever forget this because it is the defining line for alternative Christian music. You can listen to hardcore music, heavy metal music, any kind of music, but if it isn’t played for the glory of God, it’s not Christian.            There are two verses that help me understand this so much better. The first one is Judges 5:3 “Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! I will sing to the LORD, I will sing; I will make music to the LORD, the God of
Israel.” If you are singing to the Lord, then do it in your favorite way. The Lord loves it when you praise him from the heart, and if you don’t enjoy the way you are praising him, you probably aren’t praising him with everything. Don’t get me wrong, you can praise God just as well with out music, and you should be happy with just being able to praise God at all, but he has given you so many ways to praise him, so be creative. The second verse is 1 Corinthians 14:26What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.” This verse helps me to remember that God made everyone and everything unique. There is no reason to do everything one way, when we have the God given ability to do something knew or different. This does not mean out with the old though. God gives us choices, and if that’s the case, then I’m sure God won’t care how we praise him as long as we do.

There is nothing wrong with the old music and there is nothing wrong with the new music. God has blessed us with inspiration, and if that leads to a different form of praise, I think it is safe to say that God has no mixed feelings. You will know if the band you like is devoted to praising God, and if that is evident, then you know if it is right or wrong. All God asks of us is to praise him in everything we do, and I think we should honor that with whatever gift God has given us.

Happy Fryday!

So, last fryday i rededicated my life to Christ. just thought i’d put that out there for Josh and anyone else who reads my stuff.

Oh my God! My God, I am crying out.

So I went into FLY and had a good time. I met a bunch of people, some who were very cool people and some who should have been smothered as children. In all I learned quite a bit, but I couldn’t help but feel confused.

Dr. Steve Roberson was talking about when he surrendered his life to God and how he lived after he surrendered to Gods will. He told a story, but I can’t quite remember how it went. What I do remember he said that when he sinned, God started talking to him and asked him if he was doing the right thing. The story ends with him making the right decision and moving on with life.

This confused me so much because it never happens to me. I’ve sinned quite a  bit and remember my actions perfectly, but I don’t recall a tiny voice in my head asking me if I was doing the right thing. I believe I have a conscience, but I guess its not doing its job. I’ve prayed for something like that to happen in my life. I have asked God to help me with a constant reminder when I do something wrong but it never happens.

On top of Dr. Roberson’s story, Pastor Pope gave a short sermon on sex, but I’d like to think of it as my first sex talk. He told a story about when he was dating his wife and how he wanted to kiss her. Again, God tells him no and evil is thwarted once again, but it still seemed like a one sided story. Not that I’m proud, but I have made many mistakes with girls and in all that time, nothing pulled me away. Last year at youth camp, I made a promise to stay clean, but a week hadn’t even passed since I came home and I had already broken my promise. To add on to that, I didn’t even think about what I had done till the next day.

I wanted to go forward so bad this last weekend and make that same promise, but I couldn’t help but think about my previous promise and I couldn’t bare to go forward as a liar to make another promise. Why doesn’t God speak to me the same as he did Pastor Pope or Dr. Roberson?

I’d like to think the best, but I come away from an activity made to lift me up feeling like the worst person on earth.
